Our flights were delayed in both Omaha and LAX yesterday. So it made for an even longer day of traveling. However, despite that, the flights were good, and the time of mostly carefree traveling was a welcome break from our typical routine. I spent time reading two books over the last two days. One entitled ET101, which I received from one of our regulars at the café, and one entitled Pastrix written by Nadia Boltz-Weber.
ET101 was a quick and funny read about the Spirit presence in the world, and the way to awaken such awareness if you recognize yourself as one that can. It was hilarious in parts, challenging in parts, and off the map in other parts. A couple of things that I will most likely take from my reading of ET101 that apply in my life, and I believe the life of the café are this. Embody the Spirit. Listen for the Spirit moving in every aspect of life. By embodying the Spirit, others will be drawn to that Holy Presence of God living inside, and we who embody the Spirit will “be” different in the world. Bringing a little piece or peace of heaven into this crazy place called earth every time we forgive instead of hold a grudge, every time we offer grace, or love in the face of fear.
I will write more about Pastrix another day. Today I will say this. Nadia Boltz-Weber is definitely an outside the box servant of grace. It is interesting to read her story in such witty detail. And interestingly enough many of her references to things like Illif School of Theology, Oakland, California, San Francisco, California and Ben Larson in Haiti all connect in various ways to my world. So serendipitous as it may seem, the timing of reading her book as we are on our way to San Francisco is no coincidence.
May you be surprised by grace and blessed by the Spirit this day. I am planning to spend a day with flowers in my hair… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmyaDrAzq6o
