Thank you to our friends in Ponca, Nebraska for your generous support of the mission and ministry of Table Grace in Omaha. We were very impressed with how your Sunday School staff, congregation and Sunday school youth rallied around the concept of Table Grace’s pay what you can café, and created the entire experience for your congregation to participate in.
To give you a bit of the back story on how this played out, we received a call several months ago asking if we’d be able to come to Ponca to share the message, music and vision of Table Grace and be a part of their Sunday School mission project this year. We put a date on our calendar, and planned the worship, music, Sunday school time and prepared to be gone from Omaha that day. Of course since Ponca is about two hours away, we got the Weber family up early, piled into the car and drove north.
Upon arriving we learned that for four weeks the Sunday School learned all of what they could about Table Grace, and how we are serving the community one person at a time offering dignity to all who walk through the door by inviting them to be generous with what they have to give. They learned about serving and taking care of one another no matter how much money someone has. Then they launched their café in which each Sunday school child had a specific role, some were dishwashers, some were greeters, of course they had a very well crafted donation box, some were servers taking orders, and some were helping plate the food in the back. During worship, we saw photos of the Table Grace “garden” café in Ponca and received a generous gift that will assist in serving 640 people who give of their time, talent or energy at Table Grace.
What a beautiful way to engage and incorporate the young people and the entire congregation in the mission project. We so appreciate all of you who are supporting Table Grace’s mission to continue nourishing hungry bodies and souls through music. We are all hungry. We are in this journey of life together. Let us walk on together.
